A 25-year-old man was shot and killed early Thursday morning outside the luxury Dream Downtown hotel, where rapper Busta Rhymes was spotted hours later.
Police say Byron Morales was blasted in the lower body in front of the hotel on West 16th Street near Ninth Avenue around 12:20 p.m.
EMS rushed the victim to Lenox Hill Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The shooting took place during a dispute between Morales — who was from Brooklyn and not a hotel guest — and another man, police said.
The suspect fled with other men in a jeep, police said. It was not clear whether he was the driver or a passenger.
Sources said Morales was a member of the Outlaws street gang. Police are now investigating whether the fatal shooting was related to a gang.
The victim may have left the Tao Downtown Restaurant, police sources said.
Hours after the shooting, rapper Busta Rhymes was spotted near the scene, although it wasn’t immediately clear why he was there.
The rapper, dressed in an orange and black patterned shirt, was one of several people seen in photos gathered in the block, which is dotted with several nightclubs, around 4 a.m.
