Jill Biden Takes Beach Walk With Boris Johnson’s Wife, Carrie

First lady Jill Biden practiced a little diplomacy by the sea on Thursday by taking a walk on the beach with British Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s wife and their 1-year-old son.

Photos showed Biden, 70, laughing with Carrie Johnson, 33, and little Wilfred by the ocean in Cornwall, where their husbands sat down for the G7 summit.

The two women were spotted swapping heels for flip-flops to frolic on the windswept beach at Carbis Bay.

At one point, Biden and her British counterpart dipped their toes in the ocean while Wilfred played on the sand in a diaper.

The first lady wore a black and white polka-dot Brandon Maxwell dress and a black blazer with the word “Love” printed on the back, while Johnson, who married the prime minister last month, was wearing a long red dress.

The excursion took place after the two couples met for the first time earlier on thursday, on the Bidens’ first full day of their European trip.

President Biden was warmly received in England by the British leader, but dodged his handshake to greet the prime minister’s new bride instead, joking that “we were both married beyond our means”.

The heads of state exchanged other compliments before changing the subject from: a reported clash over Northern Ireland policy.

The meeting is the president’s first meeting with a foreign leader abroad since taking office and will seek to underline the “special relationship” between the UK and the US.

At their summit, Biden and Johnson will announce a new Atlantic Charter, updating the 1941 agreement setting out the US-UK goals for the post-World War II world.
