A former Democratic speaker from the Oregon House of Representatives was arrested last month in connection with a stab of sex trafficking, police said.
David Hunt, 53, was one of eight men arrested in April during an operation in which agents placed bait online, Portland police said. Hunt is accused of responding to the ads to arrange payment for sex acts, police said.
He has been charged with commercial sexual incentive, a felony.
Hunt “denies the charges, but respects the criminal proceedings and will refrain from saying any more until he has the opportunity to appear in court,” said his attorney, Michael de Muniz.
Hunt is a board member of Clackamas Community College, who said on Twitter that he ‘takes leave’ from Monday.
He is a registered lobbyist in Salem, where he served as Speaker of the House of Representatives from 2009 to 2011. Before that, he served one term as leader of the majority of the House.
