First Lady tells Biden to ‘watch out’ during her UK speech

first lady Jill Biden poked President Biden to focus on her speech during a lighthearted moment at an event that marks the start of his presidency’s first overseas trip on Wednesday.

The first lady told military personnel stationed at Royal Air Force Mildenhall in the UK to sit down during her brief remarks at the event. The president turned to the soldiers behind the podium, forcing the first lady to turn his attention to the podium.


“Joe, pay attention,” the first lady said.

The president turned to the front of the podium and saluted, with the first lady and the crowd laughing.

The Bidens traveled to the United Kingdom ahead of meetings between the president and key European allies. Biden will meet British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and attend the G-7 summit in Cornwall, England, later this week. From there, the president will enter into talks with NATO and the European Union, followed by a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The first lady’s comments at the event focused on her work assisting military personnel and their families. Jill Biden has a leading role in Joining Forces, a support initiative she co-founded during the Obama administration.

“We’re going to work on the employment and entrepreneurship of military spouses, making sure you can get quality childcare when you need it, and provide the education your kids deserve,” she said.
