Elon Musk plans to take a trip to space with Virgin Galactic, according to a Sunday report from The Wall Street Journal. Billionaire’s decision to defy space follows in the footsteps of Blue Origin’s owner and Richard Branson of Virgin Galactic, who also have aspirations for space travel.
It’s uncertain where Musk, CEO of both electric car maker Tesla and rocket company SpaceX, could sit on Virgin Galactic’s long waiting list. Tickets for his space journey have sold for $250,000 each.
Virgin Galactic told CNET on Monday it cannot comment on the identities of future astronauts.

The trip, which departed from New Mexico’s Spaceport America, marked the British billionaire’s first time in space, traveling with a full crew cabin. Branson called the trip an “experience of a lifetime” in a radio broadcast sent as the plane returned to Earth.
Before his flight on Sunday, Branson acknowledged his friendship with Musk in a tweet, saying it’s “great to start the morning with a friend.”
Musk has had his eyes on space for a while now. Heinto space with the goal of eventually , and in the meantime, SpaceX has been busy sending resupply missions to the International Space Station and placing satellites in orbit to send broadband signals to Earth.
Bezos, who stepped down as Amazon CEO last week, plans to go into space on Blue Origin’s New Shepard rocket on July 20.
Tesla and SpaceX did not immediately respond to CNET’s request for comment.
