DALLAS – The Los Angeles Clippers announced Tuesday that superstar Kawhi Leonard has undergone successful surgery to repair a partially torn ACL. The timeline for his possible return remains unclear as he enters free agency as the top name on the market.

The handling of Leonard’s injury at the time was confusing. At a press conference after the Western Conference semifinal game, Leonard stated that his knee is “all good” but was later banned indefinitely after being labeled “questionable”.

On FS1’s UNDISPUTEDBayless expressed his belief that Leonard and his inner circle always felt his injury had been “misdiagnosed” by the Clippers’ training staff. As a result, he wouldn’t be “shocked” by “another Kawhi bomb” this off-season.

Bayless touched on the unpredictability that comes with Leonard’s record of decision-making. Underlying the claim that he and his inner circle feel that the Clippers staff “misdiagnosed” his knee injury, Bayless Leonard insinuates that he

Bayless is essentially insinuating that Leonard could be leaving the Clippers given the “misdiagnosis” of the knee injury that eventually required surgery. Of course he isn’t reporting this, so take that with a grain of salt.

If Bayless’s sources are right about Leonard’s feeling that his injury was misdiagnosed, it’s definitely worth checking. To be fair, Bayless was the first to report that Leonard’s knee surgery would require surgery and was more serious than originally thought.

Whatever Leonard ultimately decides to do in free agency is highly relevant to the Mavericks’ offseason plans. Dallas is already linked to Leonard as a ‘serious threat’ if he were to leave the Clippers. Bayless did not name the Mavericks on his list of teams when he speculated where ‘elsewhere’ could be for Leonard if he left the Clippers.

Even if the Mavericks eventually become the team that Kawhi Leonard signs, the team will have to be patient to get him back on the field. Luka Doncic should bear the burden as he normally has until Leonard is ready to try in many months, however much that may be.
