288 more COVID-19 cases, 3 deaths, nearly 11K vaccinations reported Friday in Utah

SALT LAKE CITY – Utah’s quantity COVID-19 number of cases rose by 288 Friday, with three more deaths and 10,830 vaccinations reported, according to the Utah Department of Health.

The rolling seven-day average number of positive cases per day is now 209, according to the health department. The positive test percentage per day for that period calculated with the “people over people” method is now 6.3%. The positive test rate per day for that period calculated using the “test over test” method is now 3.8%.

There are now 147 COVID-19 patients hospitalized in Utah, 54 of whom are in intensive care, state data shows. According to the health department, about 75% of all intensive care hospital beds in Utah are now occupied, including about 77% of the ICU beds in the state’s 16 reference hospitals. About 57% of Utah’s non-ICU hospital beds are now occupied, state data shows.

A total of 2,622,898 vaccine doses have been administered in the state, an increase of 2.612.068 Thursday. A total of 1,501,787 Utahns, or about 46.8% of the state’s total population, have now received at least their first dose of the vaccine.

According to the health department, a total of 1,235,653 Utahns, or about 38.5% of the state’s population, have been fully vaccinated.

Of Utah residents age 12 and older, who are currently eligible for the vaccine, approximately 57.9% have received at least the first vaccine dose and 47.7% have been fully vaccinated. So far, a total of 3,134,248 doses of vaccine have been shipped to Utah.

As of January, 120,933 cases of COVID-19 have been reported in Utah, 99.5% of which were among unvaccinated people. according to the health department. Among them, there were 5,016 hospital admissions and 98.7% of the hospitalized cases were unvaccinated people. There were also 688 deaths during that period, and 99.9% of those were unvaccinated people.

Friday’s new numbers point to a 0.07% increase in positives since Thursday. Of the 2,706,134 people tested for COVID-19 so far in Utah, 15% have tested positive for COVID-19. The total number of tests conducted in Utah since the start of the pandemic now stands at 4,950,730, up from 7,643 since Thursday. Of those, 4,357 were tests from people who had not previously been tested for COVID-19.

The three deaths reported Friday were:

  • A Box Elder County woman, over the age of 85, who resided in a long-term care facility.
  • A Davis County man between the ages of 65 and 84 who was hospitalized when he died.
  • A Salt Lake County woman between the ages of 45 and 64 who was hospitalized when she died.

Friday’s totals give Utah a total of 407,113 confirmed cases, with a total of 16,914 hospitalizations and 2,311 total deaths from the disease.
